What is LLiclla?
The Lliclla is a colorful cloak of the Peruvian mothers who carry lives. The llicllas represent the thriving, hard-working and migrant Peruvian women from the Sierra del Perú. The mothers carry their children in the blankets every day and go to work. Many of them – if not all – have been loaded in the same way and this tradition goes back generations. However, not all of them use these blankets to carry their children, they also carry their work implement.
But the LLiclla is more than that, is a magical connection between mothers and babies, because carrying the children inside these fabrics, the mothers have the opportunity to keep them attached to them, facilitating the care that the children require and, of course, the little ones feeling the closeness of their mothers. It is impressive how to this day a garment that dates back to the Inca empire is used! and is tremendously tender!
